This beautiful pair of shoushan style red temple lions are brand new and boxed and are made from a mixture of stone and resin. These ornaments measure 7 inches tall x 2.5 inches wide x 5.75 inches deep.
Shoushan or imperial stone is found in Fujian province in south china. For over 1500 years it has been prized for its fine carving qualities and rich colours. This affordable imitation is cast from a mixture of powdered shoushan stone and resin. Temple lions first appeared in china with the coming of Buddhism. They are described as small with a swelling cape of dignity around its neck and billowing standard of pomp above its back. Their function is to protect and guard against evil and are often seen protecting buildings of great importance. These temple lions symbolize great strength and great courage. When the male lion is seen playing with a ball which signifies the moon pearl which symbolizes blessings and the ball also represents the sun which is yang. The female lion is seen with a cub lion under her foot and symbolizes protection. Place near or opposite your front door on a small table to protect your home or office.
